Seaside Cottage Wachter stands right next to the Lighthouse of Harlingen. A house straight out of a fairy tale. Charming and bold at the same time. Once the workshop of the 19th-century house next door, it is now, with the bronze statue of the lighthouse keeper at the door, a beacon of understated beauty in the city.
The house offers several separate intimate atmospheres. The warm red color is inspired by the Hannemahuis city museum. It was chosen to give the art treasures on loan from the museum a sense of home. These finds are presented as the collection of the lighthouse keeper who once lived here.
The artisanal Harlingen pottery factory created the estriken tiles for the floor. The robust wooden furniture enhances the experience of a historical home. A touch of deliberate simplicity: the kitchen contains all the technology of a modern and comfortable house.
A passion of the owner: elevating sanitary spaces to art. Hidden inside a cabinet is a space constructed entirely in one color and material. Every function—from sink to toilet paper holder—is an integral part of the furniture. Using shipbuilding techniques, the finish has taken on seaworthy characteristics.
What a beautiful place with all the luxury one could wish for! We thoroughly enjoyed Harlingen and this lovely little house. Thank you, see you soon.
My stay in the Lighthouse Keeper's House was a dreamlike experience. The house is cozy and stylishly furnished, with great attention to detail.
A special place we enjoyed immensely. The comfort, the stunning view, and the warmth of the town are huge highlights. Thank you.
What a dream location! Everything is made and chosen with care, with an eye for detail. The introduction of the breakfast box was the cherry on top.
A beautiful house, with attention to every detail. A complete and luxurious stay!
Super nice place full of the dynamism of the port, the view and enough tranquility.
We sat so nicely upstairs, by the open windows to catch a breeze, with a glass of wine, really a super nice place!
Perfect quality through all the materials used, the way of finishing, the equipment, the bed, etc... It can't be better.
The level of finish is high and the presence of real art pleases my art historian's heart.
A museum-like box bed. Full of hidden discoveries. At the foot end, a display case contains giant stones and iron cannonballs from the time when Harlingen was under attack. In the same cabinet, a colossal television screen is concealed, appearing at the press of a button. (But why would you use it?)
A narrow staircase leads to the intimate upper floor, featuring a spacious sitting and lounging bench. A large window offers a view of Harlingen’s lively harbor and beyond, the Pollendam, the waterway to the Wadden Islands.
